Hungary’s rich tradition of wine production was first attributed to Roman conquerors, although the Hungarian language testifies an even more ancient tradition. It is said that the Hungarian word for wine, ‘Bor’, is the only one in Europe that does not derive from the Latin ‘Vino’, strongly indicating that their wine production predates Roman involvement. Hence Hungary is known as one of the oldest viticulture traditions in Europe. Like many of France’s top wine producing regions, Hungary lies between the 46th and 49th parallels. Its rolling hills are rich in volcanic soils and limestone and it’s, therefore, no surprise that Hungarian red and white wines made it into the top 10 imported wines into the UK in 2016.
Coupled with fantastic vintages in 2016, 2017 and 2018, Hungary Wine Stars looks to be a very intriguing project.
